On 1st February, our own Patsy Colvin gave a fascinating talk about Plastics – and made us all think about what sort of world we would have without them.
Using a mixture of slides and videos, samples to pass round, molecular models and hands-on chemistry, Patsy told the story of how and when they originated and explained how the various types are classified, used and recycled [or not!].
She had a ‘chain gang’ from the audience making a polymer chain from ethene molecules:
At the end everyone was able to get really hands on making SLIME:
Many thanks to Patsy for such an entertaining talk.
